Owl Omen?

Last night, Kelly and I attended a "birth circle" that our 3 midwives put together with about 8 other couples who are having a homebirth. Everyone there was at least 28 weeks along; we are closest to delivery by the calendar. We settled in on a handful of blankets in a park in Montecito and had a potluck dinner. The intention was to talk about what we expect from our homebirth, what questions we have, and to just talk with like-intentioned families. This was the first meeting the group had and we might only get to go to this one. We knew one couple there, a young couple that owns a gallery in town that we enjoy visiting and have purchased a painting from (the donut/police painting in our kitchen.) After sitting together for about an hour with our dinner, we heard a very distict "dropping" sound and saw what appeared to be a few giant raindrops falling from the sky directly above one side of our group. We all realized, just at the time our friends across the way did, that there was a big splatter following that dropping sound...much like a clap of thunder follows lighting. Our friend was acutely aware of the splatter, as it was a direct hit to his head, shoulders and neck. He spent the next 30 minutes in the park restroom trying to rinse away the evidence and shake off the experience. The rest of us stood around investigating...

We looked up to discover 3 white barn owls perched in the tree above us. (You might be able to make at least one out in this photo.)

The midwives told us that the owl is the symbol of the midwife. I'm not necessarily into omens and symbols, and considering I am not an owl expert, it could mean exactly nothing that these 3 feathered guys were hovering in this particular tree at this time of the evening. However, I'm going to call it good luck that there were exactly 3 owls perched above us as our 3 midwives were guiding us along the path to our perfect births. (Good luck for everyone but our friend in the bathroom rinsing owl shit from his head.)

Perhaps it means 3 days until baby...Sunday? Stay tuned.

All my friends (except Antoine Wilson, who is too classy) want to know: Will the birth video be available on our youtube channel?
